Germans Optimistic of Euro Qualification

Muller and his Bayern Munich colleague Miroslav Klose both netted braces to secure a comfortable 4-0 victory over minnows Kazakhstan.

The victory now means Germany are firm favourite to qualify directly from Group A as group winners, boasting a significant lead over their nearest challengers Belgium and Austria with fifteen points, having scored seventeen goals and only conceding one.

Speaking to German television station ZDF, Muller stated: “We are glad to have scored four goals. Now it is looking good in terms of qualification.”Germans Optimistic of Euro Qualification

Muller has come from nowhere to establish himself in the Germany national team, following a breakout season with Bayern last year, with his club performances earning him a spot in his country’s 2010 World Cup squad, where he went on to win the Golden Boot and Best Young Player at the tournament.

Germany captain Philipp Lahm, who also plays alongside Muller for Bayern, was another to reveal that he was quietly confident his side could avoid any hiccups and qualify for the 2012 finals to be held in Poland and Ukraine.

“A lot can still go wrong, especially as there are still important matches to come.”

“Saying that, I have faith in the strength of this team.”

German fans will now also be eagerly waiting to see if Klose can break the all-time goalscoring record for the national team, with Saturday’s two goals now seeing him just seven more away from the legendary Gerd Muller’s tally of 68 goals.
